Could we buy the Bottom Pub, together?
It's been the pub with no beer long enough. We're asking whether Cygnet wants to explore buying it — not as individual investors, but together.
Show your support. Before we go further, we need to know the community is behind this. A pledge is how you show up — no money changes hands, and you're not locked into anything. Membership starts at $500; donations of any amount are welcome.
Locals gathered at the Town Hall to talk through the co-op idea. A summary of what was discussed and what comes next will be posted here shortly.
The community met. People asked the hard questions: how a co-op could work, how money might be raised, what state the building is in, and what could go wrong. A full transcript is available.
A place worth pausing over.
The Bottom Pub has been closed for some time, and its future is unclear. Places like this are more than businesses. They are gathering places, local employers, and part of what makes a town feel like itself.
Across Australia, local pubs are increasingly bought up by outside investors, or simply left to close. We don’t need to assume the worst — only ask the question while we still can.
“Could Cygnet explore a different path — and decide, together, whether this place is worth keeping?” — A question, not a campaign
Put your name behind it.
A pledge is the most direct way to show this is worth pursuing. Co-operative membership starts at $500; donations of any amount are welcome.
